En otrevlig upptäckt vid 100 timmars tillsynen...

I'm afraid we have no idea where the missing bits may have gone. These are inside the ring
of the air filter, so they may have been sucked into the carburetor -- although they would
probably cause enough damage that you'd know about it.

Subject: Door to filtered airbox
Hi,
Having flown my RV-9A more than 170 hours now I must say it´s a
wonderful airplane.
Today however when doing my annual inspection I
found something strange. When lowering the lower cowling and
inspecting the air filter box (FAB 360/540) I found the bypass
door,(VA-192B), with its air inlet,(VA-192A) loose, only attatched to
the fiberglass housing with the screw holding the control cable.
A small piece of the filter
housing where the platenut K1000-08 was riveted was missing and so
were the 5 poprivets AK42-H that used to attatch the air inlet to the
filter housing.
Should I be nervous about this?- I mean could they have been
sucked into the engine or did they most likely fall out of the air
filter housing, onto the lower cowling and out in the airstream?
I
have now reinforced the fiberglass housing and added a bracket on the
inside so that the VA-192A has something more solid to be riveted to.
Best regards
